Sion graduates are prepared for success in life - whatever that looks like for them. Sion exposes students to new experiences and opportunities they won’t find anywhere else, which help them uncover their passions and strengths.This approach is core to Sion way as all Sion schools internationally maintain a deep commitment to encouraging every student to realize his and her unique gifts in a nurturing atmosphere of love and respect.

We offer challenging academics that are matched to students’ personal needs and aspirations to reach their full potential. We empower students to take academic risks that connect with his or her interests, tailoring balanced schedules to individual needs.

We want to instill in our students a love for learning - to grow and explore. Students have the opportunity to try something new. Learn to play field hockey. Take the lead on stage. Try out the drumline. Run for Student Council. Pick up a camera. Explore the pottery wheel. It’s theirs for the taking and we’re here to guide them along the way.

Experiential learning is a hallmark of a Sion education and  extends beyond the classroom into the Kansas City community, nationally and internationally. Sion believes that moments of significant learning are achieved through experiences that allow students to connect to the real world, assert their independence, embrace ambiguity, and change their perception of the world. Sion students expand their horizons through a wide-range of unique experiences that expose them to new opportunities and empower them to create their own path.

Teachers encourage students, teachers know students, self confidence, formative years, whole person, try new things

Students are encouraged to take chances and try something new! There are a wide range of opportunities available to them - including an annual school musical that encourages students to develop their acting, singing, and dancing skills through rehearsals and performances. Past performances include well-known productions, such as “Seussical the Musical,” “Shrek” and “The Music Man.”

This program invites male students in grades 6 through 8 to interact and learn life skills together. This program is one component of Sion’s boys’ community initiative, which also includes creating a men’s affinity group for male teachers, surveying students to determine their interests and creating 8th grade schedules that allow male students to be together in most classes.

Confidence, international travel, experiential learning, change the world, courses abou the real world, hands on learning

Each Spring Sion High School students engage with over 50 community partners as they participate in unique, hands-on, experiential courses designed and curated by Sion faculty in conjunction with local and national field experts. During these courses, students travel throughout Kansas City to learn from business executives, community organizers, religious leaders, athletes, health care officials, coders, artists and more. Additionally, some courses travel beyond Kansas City to collaborate with various domestic and international environmental and cultural grassroots organizations from the American Southwest to Kenya.

Each Fall Sion High School students partake in a “Life Beyond Sion” conference comprising 150 sessions of 40 unique topics that equips them with the skills they need to be successful in the real world.
