Notre Dame de Sion High School for Girls

A Message from the Principal

In Kansas City, we are fortunate to have many excellent choices for high school education. Public, private, religious, STEM-focused, professional credentialing, single-gender, experiential, alternative options for elite athletes, and college prep—you can find it all within a thirty-mile radius of the downtown area.

In the center of this educational landscape sits Notre Dame de Sion High School for Girls: an incredible gem of a school that invites each young woman to find her unique purpose and explore ways to share her gifts to create a world of peace, justice, and love.

As a Catholic and interfaith community, our students and faculty continually strive to be in right-relationship with God, one another, and the world. In the tradition of the Sisters of Sion, we accomplish this in a creative atmosphere where open dialogue, curiosity, and questioning are infused with our core values of love, respect, openness, connection, and hope. Sion girls are unafraid to dig into the tough issues facing our society as they learn to navigate ambiguity and plurality of thought. They develop a sense of agency that compels them to take action on issues that speak to their hearts.

Sion’s unique blend of tradition and innovation allows us to offer a full range of classical college preparatory courses and leading-edge signature programs that harness the transformative power of experiential learning. We set high expectations for engagement and behavior, allowing students to hone their interpersonal skills through connecting with community partners and building solutions to real-world problems.

Our intentionally small class size allows us to know each student and develop experiences to support their goals and aspirations. Sion is small but never limited. Extracurricular programming spans athletics, arts, technology, service, ministry, international travel, and advocacy. Over four years, students are encouraged to seek unique paths that help them develop into well-rounded individuals, faith-filled global citizens, and servant leaders.

We firmly believe that relationships are foundational to all learning. Our dedicated and talented faculty, coaches, and administration, nurture students in the classroom, stage, field, court, and advisory. Humility and humanity are indicative of a Sion teacher. Relationship building is key as Sion endeavors to be a community where all members feel they belong. We value and respect the identity of each individual and the distinctiveness of each group of people. Creating a space where equity, inclusion, and belonging are experienced by all members of our community is central to our mission of lovingly preparing students for success in a religiously and culturally diverse world.

As I enter my twenty-seventh year in this community and reflect on my own daughter’s experience at our grade school and high school, I have a deep love and respect for the mission, vision, and family that is Sion. I am grateful for your interest in Notre Dame de Sion High School for Girls and encourage you to explore the website and our social media platforms to learn more about our programming and community. We look forward to welcoming you to our school.
Vive Sion!
