At Sion, going to school is about much more than just the curriculum being taught in class. Our student life strives to educate the whole person by being intentional about how and what we teach both in the classroom and beyond.
Performing Arts
The Performing Arts department at Sion teaches students to practice diverse ways of thinking by creating, performing, responding and connecting through music and drama.
- Night of One Acts: This student-directed show includes monologues, skits, and improv. It’s an incredible production and the process of being a part of it imparts a drive for leadership in each student.
- Fine Arts Showcase: The arts should be celebrated. This is a week-long showcase with events held at school and during the evening. From vocal pieces to poetry and dance, all forms of creative expression are encouraged to make this an event to remember.
- Musicals: Every January we put on a musical, and this year it will be Freaky Friday. In the fall, we will do a play, and this year it will be Clue. Scripts are chosen that are empowering, and most importantly, fun!

Publications
Sion's nationally recognized publications program teaches real world print and digital publishing skills using modern professional editing programs. Students practice and attend classes in the iMac lab, mastering Adobe Creative Suite programs such as:
- InDesign
- Photoshop
- Illustrator
- Premiere Pro
- Lightroom
Through a tailored curriculum, students focus on photography composition and mechanics, principles of design, typography, storytelling, interviewing, and the mechanics of publication production. Journalists in this track will learn to cover stories at our school, in our greater community, and in the world. Our students learn the skills of reporting, writing, editing, photography, page layout and design, as well as the legal and ethical aspects of journalism.
Students staffing one of our two award-winning publications, Le Flambeau (Yearbook) and Le Journal (Newsmagazine), will develop leadership skills while working on a true newsroom-style team of peer editors.
Le Journal is the news magazine which produces four issues per school year, focusing on designing and writing features for our local community audience. Check out our recent issues on our Issuu page. We also have a news website, Sion Student Media Online, that publishes stories almost daily during the academic year. Les Vitraux is a literary magazine published once a year which is a collection of studentcreated art, poetry, photography, writing, fashion and other media printed into one piece. We also have a yearbook, Le Flambeau, an award-winning annual and honored tradition that uses photography and writing to provide a unique historical record of the year.

Clubs & Activities
Sion students are encouraged to get involved in our peer led activities and student-facilitated clubs to help them find their unique purpose.
Many of our peer-led activities are academic in nature and offer distinct avenues for leadership development. Most often these groups meet before or after school. Our high school clubs meet during the school day during an activity period once a week. Each student chooses 2 clubs of interest per academic year, and the clubs alternate meetings week to week. These clubs are student-led and provide students the opportunity to cultivate connections with peers that share their same interests and passions in a relaxed setting. With our wide range of club offerings - we are sure there is something for everyone!

Community Events
There are a variety of events throughout the year that serve to build community relationships among our families.
We host two annual fundraising events each year that bring parents, alumni, donors and friends together for fun and camaraderie to support Sion! The Sion Scramble Golf Tournament in July at Loch Lloyd Country Club and the Gala Auction in March at The Abbott.
