Summer at Sion

Sion is excited to offer summer programming to the greater Kansas City area again this summer -- and now, bigger and better than ever! Summer at Sion, known as Camp Roar, has returning summer favorites as well as many new opportunities for children age 2 through 5th grade.

Notre Dame de Sion is committed to designing and offering camps that integrate hands-on learning experiences and academic excellence into fun camper experiences where both learning and exploration will take place. Explore the summer catalog to find the perfect fit for your schedule and interests. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited.

  • Sion High School provides additional camp options for girls grades 4th-8th.

Why Choose Camp Roar:

Academic Excellence: Our camps combine hands-on learning experiences and the pillars of Notre Dame de Sion Schools’ Portrait of the Graduate: well-rounded individuals, faith-filled global citizens and servant leaders. Sion believes that moments of significant learning are achieved through experiences that allow students to connect to the real world, assert their independence, embrace ambiguity and change their perception of the world. Our summer program offerings align with the academic excellence that Sion offers during the school year.

Quality Instructors: Many camps are taught by Sion faculty with years of instructional teaching and all summer staff members bring passion, dedication and experience working with children.

Real-World Learning Activities: Instructors incorporate movement, exploration, deep critical thinking, healthy risk-taking and life skills development into camps, activities and instructional lessons.

  • Who We Serve

Camp Roar has summer programming for children age 2 through 5th Grade from the surrounding Kansas City community. Sion High School provides additional camp options for girls grades 4th-8th. We encourage our 6th-8th grade girls to attend our Sion High School camps and boys to attend Rockhurst High School (or other area High School) camps.
  • Location

Camps will be held at Notre Dame de Sion Grade School at 3823 Locust Street, Kansas City, MO 64109. Some programs include field trips, which are detailed in the camp description.
  • What Should I Bring?

Every week, all Sion campers should plan to bring...
    • a labeled water bottle
    • comfortable clothing/shoes
    • a clear understanding of the Camper Behavior Expectations (listed above)
    • an eager heart to learn new things and a positive, servant-leader attitude!

If your student is a full day camp participant and is not registered for Hot Lunch, please also include a labeled lunch packed from home.
Each student will receive a snack every day of camp and a camp t-shirt on their first day. Campers are encouraged to wear their shirts as often as they’d like to show their excitement for being at
Summer At Sion, but will be asked to wear them specifically on T-shirt Tuesdays for camp photos. If your student has a food-related allergy or sensitivity, we encourage those campers to plan to
bring their own snacks with them each day to avoid any potential cross-contamination with what we plan to offer week-to-week.
  • Lunch/Recess 12-1pm

All full day camp participants need to bring a labeled water bottle and a labeled lunch packed from home, unless enrolled in our Hot Lunch option. Please note that we do not have access to microwaves or refrigeration over the summer, so please keep that in mind when packing your child’s lunch. There are plenty of water fountains around our campus to refill water bottles throughout the day, and all campers will be encouraged to hydrate often.
  • Behavior Expectations

While here with us at Summer At Sion, all camp participants are expected to have Sion PRIDE (shown below). These characteristics are expected in camp classrooms, in common areas/transitional spaces (recess, cafeteria, hallways, etc), and while off-site as a representative of Notre Dame de Sion summer programming.
    • Personal Responsibility (throwing away trash, treating school property as you would your own,
following rules/guidelines at all times, etc)
    • Respect (following directions given by camp authority figures, using positive and appropriate
language, keeping hands to ourselves, etc)
    • Integrity (being accountable for your behavior, being a positive role model to others, doing the
right thing regardless of who is watching, etc)
    • Determination (doing and giving your best, being an active participant in what’s being asked of you,
    having a growth mindset, etc)
    • Empathy (offering help to those that need it, being welcoming of those around you, consider how
your actions may affect others around you, etc)

Camper households will be notified directly if a student demonstrates behavior that is unsafe for them or those around them, which may result in a day of reflection at home before returning to camp
or dismissal from their camp(s) entirely.
  • Drop-Off Times

Campers and families may enter through the big playground on the east side of campus. Upon arrival, please check in with one of our staff members near the concrete stairs and they will guide
your child in where to head next.

Campers may get dropped off at 8:45am. Camp begins promptly at 9:00am and ends at 4:00pm. Campers are asked to be picked up no later than 4:15pm.
