On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am excited to announce the appointment of Alicia Herald (HS ’02) as the President of Notre Dame de Sion Schools, effective August 1, 2018.
With more than 12 years of experience in education, she was the founding Teach for America Executive Director of the Kansas City regional office. While in that role, she supported more than 200 first and second year corps members (teachers), 150 alumni, and a regional support staff while growing local philanthropy support to more than $3 million annually. Alicia has also served as the KIPP Endeavor Academy Interim Executive Director and Board Chair and was appointed by the Governor in 2015 to chair the Missouri Charter Public School Commission. Alicia will be joining us from her current position as a senior consultant in the education industry. She is currently working for the company that acquired her successful educational technology startup, which she founded in 2013 to improve teacher turnover.
Alicia has a special passion for our school as she is a 2002 graduate of Notre Dame de Sion, where she was captain of the state championship volleyball and basketball teams. She is looking forward to returning “home” to Notre Dame de Sion where she will be the “captain” of a team of dedicated educators, staff, students and parents who are committed to the success of the school. Alicia stated:
" I believe the difference between a great education and a life-changing educational experience is the community in which it takes place. When I think about my time at Sion, I cannot help but appreciate the community that fostered my growth, allowed me to challenge assumptions, pushed me to be my best self and make an impact in the world. Sion gave me not only a highly rigorous academic foundation, but also taught me the critical values of justice, faith, teamwork, and discipline. The family that Sion created, among my peers, teachers, administrators, coaches, and parents, is a community that embodies the highest educational opportunity. It is an incredible honor to put my experience and leadership to work in the next phase of Notre Dame de Sion’s rich history and tradition."
Alicia will assume the leadership of Notre Dame de Sion in its 106th year, following Susan M. Stanton (HS ’66) who is currently serving as Interim President. We cannot thank Susan enough for her leadership during this past school year. She, along with our dedicated faculty and staff, truly make Sion the special place that it is.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Search Committee, I would also like to express our sincere thanks for all of your support and prayers during this process. Thank you for everything each of you do in support of Notre Dame de Sion.
Ann Uryasz Chair, Board of Trustees Notre Dame de Sion Schools
