Sion students become self-confident, global citizens through exchanges with:
Melbourne, Australia: Our Lady of Sion College
Evry, France: College et Lycee Notre Dame de Sion
San José, Costa Rica: Colegio Nuestra Señora de Sión
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Colegio Sion
Ahaus, Germany: Carnisiusschule
Each program is intended to be reciprocal, with the Sion student in Kansas City hosting the same international student she will ultimately visit overseas.
Costs are minimal; the school charges no fee for participation. Family expenses incurred relate to the hosting experience (which are in effect returned on the other end of the exchange) and air travel.
Families travel outside of Kansas City with their exchange student once during the program, to give our international visitors a taste of other areas of the United States.
Sion students travel exclusively during the summer months, when they will not be missing school. Exchanges vary in length from three weeks to five weeks. Sion welcomes students to Kansas City throughout the year with the most common time during the month of January.
Exchange program applications are to be turned in by May, at which time the International Exchange Committee, will place students in a particular program according to availability and preference indicated. Juniors are given first priority for all exchange programs, followed by sophomores and freshmen. Current seniors are not eligible to participate in Sion’s International Exchange Programs. The International Exchange Committee considers age, maturity level, and teacher recommendations during their evaluation. If an applicant has been accepted to participate in an exchange program, she will be notified by June, approximately one year before traveling and six months before hosting an exchange student.
