Periodically, it is essential to make a sizeable investment in our physical plant. These capital improvements can result from a growth in our enrollment, expansion in curriculum and/or preservation of our current facilities. These improvements are not funded through the operating budget but require addition support from the community through capital campaign fundraising.
A feasibility study conducted in 2003 determined that Sion should undertake a Capital Campaign to make much needed improvements and expand both campuses. In the fall of 2003 Notre Dame de Sion School launched Building on Excellence – A Blueprint for the Future Capital Campaign to support new construction and remodeling of existing buildings on both campuses.
Over the past eight years, under the leadership of our dedicated volunteer chairs, Bob and Jeannette Reintjes, and many committee volunteers, this campaign raised over $10.3 million to fund the first four phases. This campaign has been supported not only by the Sion Community but also the Kansas City Community.
As the cost of construction for each phase is determined, the necessary funds are raised and the construction takes place. (See the table below for the status of the construction projects.) Phase IV construction, which included construction of a new high school Chapel, exterior improvements including relocation and renovation of the front entrance and interior improvements including renovation of counseling offices and relocation of administrative offices, was completed in February 2011.
Fundraising continues for future phases of the Capital Campaign which includes Phase V construction of a new High School Fine and Performing Arts Center.
