News 2016

Congratulations to softballers Natalie Arreguin, Madeline Dercher and Sarah Totta for being named to the Class 3 All-district softball team.  Natalie was named 1st team shortstop, Madeline was 2nd team third basemen, and Sarah was a 2nd team outfield selection.

Individual awards were given at the team banquet on the 24th.  Madeline was the outstanding offensive player, while Natalie was the outstanding defensive player.  Sarah Totta was most improved, and Lacy Whitcomb was tabbed newcomer of the year.  Senior Lucy Bahner was awarded the coveted "most inspirational player".  18 of the 19 players atttended the event along with about 35 other family members in a fantastic show of support for the Storm softball squad.

The Storm softball team saved their best moments for the end of the season.  Maya Bair collected the win and two hits in a 7-5 decision over district host Excelsior Springs.  Madeline Dercher had 3 hits and 3 runs, Natalie Arreguin with a clutch two-run double, and Mariah Lynn, Lacy Whitcomb, and Sarah Totta provided several important defensive plays to help seal the victory.  Coming off the strong performance, the Storm courageously battled the number one seed, Smithville, before falling 6-0.  Dercher, Arreguin, and senior catcher Lucy Bahner proudly wore the purple for the last time and were solid all night on defense.  Maya Bair, Madiison Clark, and Sarah Totta shared pitching duties and battled all evening to keep us within striking distance.  Several young players made positive contributions and will be counted upon next year.

Congratulations to Storm Softball! The team defeated Excelsior Springs in their first round of Districts. They compete again this evening in the District semi-finals.

The Storm continues to play hard and compete well heading into districts. After tough losses to Holden and Excelsior Springs, the Storm defeated O'Hara 14-4 in their final 2016 home game. Madeline Dercher threw 4 efficient innings to garner her first ever pitching victory. Madeline also had 3 hits and scored 4 runs to lead the offense. Other standouts included Dani Rotert (3 rbi), Natalie Arreguin (2 rbi) and Sarah Totta (2 rbi). 10 different players hit safely in a total team effort. After the Ray-South tourney on Saturday and a game at Mid-Buchanan Monday, the Storm travels to Excelsior Springs to face Excelsior Springs at 4:30 Wednesday the 5th in district play.

After losing late leads to Truman and Benton in the past week, the Storm finally got their first win with a 15-0 win over St. Pius highlighted by freshman Maya Bair's no-hitter. Seniors Madeline Dercher, Natalie Arreguin, and Lucy Bahner combined for 5 hits, 7 runs, and 6 rbi before being "roasted" by the underclassmen after the game. Sarah Schaffer, Sarah Totta, and Lacy Whitcomb contributed excellent defensive plays to preserve the no-no.

The JV also got their first win, 7-1, vs. Pius. Madison Clark struck out 5 and Munachi Okuagu scored 2 runs to lead the JV.

The Storm softball team has been making strides early in the season in an effort to play some quality games. On Wednesday the 7th before a big home crowd, the Storm fell 15-13 in 9 innings in an epic back and forth classic. Senior leaders Madeline Dercher and Natalie Arreguin combined for 7 hits and catcher Lucy Bahner threw out a would be base stealer while catching all 9 innings. Reagan Amato had a big 2-run double in the 5th to give the Storm its first lead of the game. Dani Rotert found ways to get on base and Maya Bair turned in a gutsy performance in pitching the final 7 2/3 innings. The Storm is in the midst of a 16 game in 3 week stretch which includes 2 tournaments.

Another bright spot this season has been the play of the JV as the Storm has gotten some valuable experience and enjoyed success with many new players taking advantage of the opportunities to practice and play. Keep up the good work!
