Students beginning their preschool years join our Montessori program as 3, 4, and 5 year olds. In the classic Montessori tradition, students engage independently in a structured series of works designed to cultivate each one’s natural desire to learn. Three homerooms of Montessori students strive to establish “mini-communities” where budding self-discovery and essential life skills are applied to learning activities which form the foundation for reading readiness and number sense.
The Primary Level includes kindergarten, first grade and second grade. Students are in self-contained homerooms in kindergarten and first grade, focusing on the core subjects of reading, pre-writing skills, spelling, and mathematics. In second grade the day is divided between two teachers, and additional time is given for science and social studies.
The Intermediate Level, third, fourth and fifth grades, invites students to a much broader application of their foundational academic skills, with specialized teachers in each discipline and more active reading for learning, expanded writing across the curriculum, and technology integration. Critical attention to social and emotional development assists these students into the early adolescent years.
The Middle School program helps young people in sixth through eighth grades to develop intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Self-discipline and accomplishments build self-esteem. Learning to work both independently and in cooperation with others prepares students for success in high school, college and adult life.
