Welcome from our Head of School

Thank you for visiting the Notre Dame de Sion School website. I hope that as you get to know our school, you will find it to be an exciting place where academic challenges, spiritual development, service to others, and leadership opportunities combine to “Educate minds, Expand hearts, and Empower lives.”

Founded in 1912 by the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion as a Catholic Pre-K to 12 school that embraces the Catholic faith and strives to build bridges of understanding among people of all faith traditions, Notre Dame de Sion School is proud to usher in its 100th year of academic excellence in the Kansas City area. Our school offers a challenging, college preparatory curriculum at both school locations. Our grade school, located in beautiful Hyde Park area of Kansas City, begins with our highly regarded Montessori pre-school and ends with our departmentalized middle school, where students consistently achieve well ahead of their public and private school counterparts and where they are offered high school level coursework. Our young men and women are aggressively pursued by the most competitive high schools in the city and most of the young women continue their education at Notre Dame de Sion High School in South Kansas City.

The all girls’ high school, opened in the Red Bridge area of Kansas City in 1962, offers a college preparatory curriculum with college credit Advanced Placement courses offered in most disciplines to young women. Extra and co-curricular activities complement the academic program and contribute to our educational program as our school strives to educate the whole person. A highly acclaimed international exchange program offers opportunities to qualified students to experience international living and studying experiences in France, Australia, Chile, Costa Rica and Germany and students from those counties, in turn, live with our Sion families and attend our school each year.

However, a Sion education is much more than academics and enrichment programs. The Catholic roots upon which the school was founded, coupled with the commitment to interfaith understanding and appreciation, the service learning program, the social activities for student and their parents, and the family-like atmosphere all characterize the unique, rich and diverse atmosphere pervasive in the school and lived out in the world by our alumnae and alumni as they strive to increase understanding among all people, to reach out in service to our sisters and brothers, both locally and around the world, and to build a world of justice, peace and love.

Notre Dame de Sion School offers a unique and special experience to its students and their families. Please explore Sion through the website and capture the “Sion Spirit.” Please call or visit our school soon!
